Makaha
Visit the west side of Oahu and enjoy the beaches of Makaha.
Makaha is bordered by Waianae to the east. Makaha has a long and rich history, having been inhabited by the Hawaiian people for centuries prior to Western contact. It has been a popular spot for recreational activities such as surfing and fishing since ancient times. In the early 1800s, Makaha was a prosperous agricultural settlement, with its residents growing crops such as bananas, sugarcane, taro, and sweet potatoes. It was also the site of a major battle between the Hawaiian forces and U.S. troops in 1843, during the annexation of the Hawaiian Islands. In the 1950s and 1960s, Makaha was a popular destination for Hollywood films, including Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii and various war movies. Today, Makaha is still a popular spot for outdoor recreation and its stunning beaches continue to draw visitors from around the world. Its close proximity to Waianae also makes it a great spot for day trips and weekend getaways.
